Take-5© .22 Rimfire, pistol and rifle

A Short History

One of those generous people behind the scenes of the Hogue Action Pistol Range at the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen's Association for several years is Dan Friend. Dan has always been interested in new shooters and had an idea. He shared it with me in mid 2006 and over Chinese food, writing notes on napkins and listening to ideas from others, the basic format was decided upon, as was a name:
Take-5© . After formally writing the description for Take-5© , it was then presented to the Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen’s Association (SLOSA) to be included as a venue at the Hogue Action Pistol range. It was also shared with the Board that Take-5© would have its own web site and offer memberships to other shooting organizations, as does other venues at the range. The Board agreed and we set upon getting the first match going.

The first match was held on August 26th, 2006 and was an immediate success. In January, 2007, Take-5© was officially asked to put on a major rimfire match to headline the concept of a fun, inexpensive match sighting in on families and juniors. This match became the highly successful 2007 Ruger Rimfire Challenge, with Ruger as the primary sponsor. It was held at the SLOSA Hogue Action Pistol Range in May of 2007. The stages were designed by Take-5© personnel, financed by individuals and built by people from the Take-5© venue and others from the SLOSA range. The stages included many unique set-ups, such as steel bowling pins and ducks, plus clay pigeons and air-activated resetting equipment.

The major match was expanded and in 2008 was called the Take-5© Rimfire World Championship. We used mainly local sponsors, plus some from across the country. The stages were more elaborate and the attendance increased almost 20% over the prior year, bringing the entries to almost 100. Juniors numbered close to 20. The plans for the 2009 major match are well underway and this match promises to continue sharing the fun of .22 rimfire with everyone.

We appreciate your interest in
Take-5© and hope that this package looks like a good way to move the shooting sports forward.

Best regards, Tom Schiller
