Take-5 Rimfire Match Results for October, 2006 SLOSA

Our thanks to everyone for a great afternoon and special greeting to the new shooters. It is refreshing to see more and more people coming to this fun match.

One o’clock showed us typical weather with everyone thinking about shirtsleeves and shorts. By 1:30, the temperature dropped, the dark clouds rolled in from the NW and we were looking for jackets, long-sleeve shirts and anything that would keep us warm. We had cranked up a propane grill at noon and grilled a dozen hot dogs for those who helped set-up and anyone else who might be hungry. Maybe we should have kept the grill on a bit longer.

The October match had 16 competitors with a total of 20 guns, which means four entered both pistol and rifle. The stages were probably the most challenging so far, with irregular spacing between targets, plus varying heights. Two of the rifle stop plates were out at 61 yards, but that didn’t seem to be very difficult. The placing of the pistol stop plates was more of a challenge.

The table of scores below has more information than the last match. The stage "Blazer" is run every month and most people say it is the most fun, because it is fast. We went through the prior matches to locate the record for 3-strings, plus the 3 fastest individual string times. These are shown for both pistol and rifle. We are also making another table for all participants and their all-time best on Blazer.

We also created an "Ultimate match time." This is to see just how quick someone could have gone, if they had all the fastest times from everyone.

We would like participants to be able to track their progress and having only the total stage times doesn’t quite do that. We have one more table not included with this writing and it has the individual times for all participants by stage at the match. It seems like you would appreciate looking at how you did and be able to practice and plan the next match with this information. It will be apparent that most everyone "tanked" a string somewhere. You might remember that it was a jam, or a mental goof (who does that??).

Thanks to Juan for helping plan the match, to Bill and Zach for painting, to Juan and Leticia for handling registration and to everyone else for making it a success. The stage designs are by Dan Friend and he created close to 40 stages before our first match to ensure a good variety.
