Match Rules & Safety

Updated April 5, 2010

SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY

Note: .22 LR solid or hollow point only; no powder-less or magnum rounds

The SLOSA Hogue Action Pistol Range is a COLD RANGE. Firearms can only be handled at a designated SAFETY TABLE, or loading only on the firing line at the Range Officer's direction. At a cold range, ammunition cannot be handled at the safe table, but can be handled anywhere else.

COMPETITORS MUST HAVE A CARRIER for both handgun and rifle. A gun bag, gun case, or holster can be used to bring the handgun to the line when it is your time to shoot. Rifles can be kept bagged or need to have the bolt open, or an indicator that it is open and empty, keeping the rifle aimed upward at all times, until it is your time to shoot. BE AWARE OF YOUR MUZZLE CONTROL. Nobody likes to look down a barrel when pointed at him or her. Violations will result in match disqualification.

EYE AND EAR PROTECTION is mandatory for each participant in the match and eye protection for any spectator.

ALCOHOL AND OTHER MIND ALTERING DRUGS are not allowed at this range. Anyone, who, in the opinion of the Match Director or Range Master, is under the influence of any drug, including alcohol, will be asked to leave the range.

Maximum Loaded Rounds

The maximum number of rounds loaded from a magazine at any time is ten (10). Tube feed rifles can normally hold more, but they should be kept at ten (10), unless a stage specifies differently. If all the targets are not hit with the stage specified rounds, those not hit are scored as misses.

Tube feed rifles, like all guns, need to be unloaded before leaving the shooting box. A dump box for all rounds in the tube can be provided, or follow the local safety procedures. Always be sure the breach is unloaded.

Misfires/Mis-feeds

The .22 rimfire ammunition and gun can be more problematic than center fire. In the event of a malfunction, the Range Officer must be doubly sure that safety is observed. This is especially in regards to the direction of the barrel always being downrange and ensuring that the competitor keeps the trigger finger out of the trigger guard and off of the trigger. Special care must be taken if a magazine is released and then picked up so that the barrel is always downrange and not breaking the 180 vertically, either (not straight up or straight down).
